Chromatin Research Scientist Position in the Hickson Group at KU
3 weeks ago
About Our Centre
The Centre for Chromosome Stability (CCS) is a leading centre of excellence in chromosome biology, funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. Our mission is to advance our understanding of how chromosomal instability causes human disease.
Our Research and Expertise
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our team in the Hickson group. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects, using a combination of genetic, biochemical, and cell biology approaches to understand the molecular mechanisms that cells use to maintain genome stability.
Your Role and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for analysing the mechanical properties of native human chromosomes using optical tweezers and investigating the effect of manipulating enzymes that alter the mechanical properties of chromosomes in human cells.
Key Criteria for the Assessment of Applicants
- You should hold a PhD degree in biochemistry, cell biology, biophysics, protein chemistry or a related discipline, preferably with a background in DNA replication or repair, mitosis, cell cycle or another area of chromosome biology.
- You should have significant expertise in two or more of the following techniques: optical manipulation of chromosomes, advanced imaging or protein degron analysis in human cells.
- You should have several primary papers published in reputable scientific journals, ideally as first author.
- You should possess a high degree of motivation, enthusiasm and attention to detail.
- You should have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and fluency in written and spoken English.
Work Environment and Benefits
We offer a dynamic and international research environment with modern laboratories and access to state-of-the-art equipment. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. We provide a competitive salary range from DKK 521,392 - 576,115 per year, depending on your qualifications and experience. In addition to your salary, we also offer a comprehensive pension scheme and holiday allowance.
Further Process and Application Guidelines
Applications must be submitted in English. Your application should include a motivated letter of application, CV, certified/signed copy of PhD certificate and Master of Science certificate, list of publications, and teaching portfolio (if applicable). The deadline for applications is Wednesday, 18 September 2024, 23:59 p.m. CET. We reserve the right not to consider material received after the deadline, and not to consider applications that do not meet the requirements specified above.
