Project Overview
The postdoctoral researcher will be working on an exciting population genomics project focused on Greenlandic land mammals, including arctic fox, caribou, arctic hare, wolves, and lemmings. The researcher will have the opportunity to analyze several whole genome datasets, which will be ready to be analyzed from day one. This project is a collaboration with The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources and other international partners.
Research Environment
The research group is part of the Department of Biology at the University of Copenhagen, a highly ranked institution. The group focuses on two research areas: population genomics and medical genomics. The researcher will be part of a dynamic and collaborative environment with a joint lab setting and regular meetings with other research groups.
Qualifications
- PhD in population genetics/genomics, bioinformatics, or a similar quantitative field
- Strong interest and background in population genomics
- Programming skills in at least one common language (e.g., C/C++, Python, or R) and experience with Linux/Unix and command lines
- Experience with genetic data, ideally with high-throughput whole genome DNA sequencing data
- Ability to conduct and complete high-quality research independently and in collaboration with the PI and project partners
- Effective communication skills, both in writing and verbally
- Published high-quality international peer-reviewed articles
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
Practical Information
The postdoctoral researcher's duties will include research within population genomics as well as teaching. The position is a 2-year position, open from 1 December 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The University of Copenhagen welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
Terms of Employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
