Postdoctoral Researcher in Cardiac Functional Genomics
4 weeks ago
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the group of Cardiac Functional Genomics. The successful candidate will work on a project focused on atrial development, morphogenesis, and function using the zebrafish model organism.
Our Group and Research
The group of Cardiac Functional Genomics is a newly established research group headed by Assistant Professor Pia Rengtved Lundegaard. Our research focuses on the structure and function of the atrium, using the zebrafish as a model organism. We study all aspects of development, morphogenesis, and function of the heart, with a particular interest in the atrium.
Project Description
Atrial function has been underappreciated in its role in the proper function of ventricles. Our previous studies have shown that mutations in genes associated with dilated cardiomyopathy are also associated with atrial fibrillation and atrial cardiomyopathy. We are particularly interested in studying how mutations in cytoskeletal genes of the cardiomyocyte influence the development and function of the atrium, and how atrial dysfunction affects the structure and function of the ventricle.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research under supervision
- Teach undergraduate students and disseminate knowledge
- Supervise PhD and MSc students
- Write scientific papers
- Write grant applications
Requirements
- Curious mind-set and high work ethics
- Prior experience with zebrafish as a model organism is an advantage
- Animal experimental course (FELASA B or C) is mandatory for applying for the position
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
Place of Employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a zebrafish facility.
