Postdoctoral Researcher in Cardiac Functional Genomics
2 weeks ago
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
The Department of Biomedical Sciences is recruiting a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the group of Functional Genomics. We are looking for a talented individual to contribute to our research on atrial development, morphogenesis, and function using the zebrafish model organism.
Our Research Focus
The group of Functional Genomics is headed by Assistant Professor Pia Rengtved Lundegaard. Our research focuses on the structure and function of the atrium, using the zebrafish as a model organism. We study all aspects of development, morphogenesis, and function of the heart, with a particular interest in the atrium.
Research Project
The selected candidate will work on existing mutants available in the lab, as well as generate new mutant and transgenic zebrafish models. We aim to investigate how mutations in cytoskeletal genes of the cardiomyocyte influence the development and function of the atrium, and how atrial dysfunction affects the structure and function of the ventricle.
Research Methods
The project will involve a range of techniques, including imaging, electrophysiology, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, RNA sequencing, molecular biology, and high-resolution imaging using confocal microscopy. Basic computer skills and an interest in bioinformatics (R-studio or Python) are an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research under supervision
- Teach undergraduate students and disseminate knowledge
- Supervise PhD and MSc students
- Write scientific papers and grant applications
Assessment Criteria
- Curious mind-set and high work ethics
- Prior experience with zebrafish as a model organism is an advantage
- Animal experimental course (FELASA B or C) is mandatory
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
Work Environment
The place of employment is at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer a dynamic and international research environment with modern laboratories and a zebrafish facility.
