Postdoctoral Researcher in Marine Microbial Ecology

At Københavns Universitet (KU), we are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Department of Biology. The successful candidate will be working within the Center for Volatile Interactions (VOLT) under the supervision of Prof. Riikka Rinnan.
Job Description
The appointed researcher will focus on fluxes of volatiles associated with marine bacterioplankton and phytoplankton, particularly exploring the importance of their interactions for VOC production/emission. The work will involve a combination of field and experimental studies, including cultivation, molecular analyses of bacterial and phytoplankton community composition, plankton activity measurements, and VOC measurements using GC-MS or PTR-MS techniques.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and conduct experiments to investigate volatile interactions between marine microorganisms
- Analyze data from various sources, including molecular and chemical analyses
- Develop and maintain laboratory protocols for culturing and analyzing microorganisms
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate results into broader research projects
Requirements
- PhD in marine microbial ecology or a related field
- Excellent analytical skills, including experience with bioinformatics and multivariate statistics
- Familiarity with VOC measurements and cultivation techniques
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
