Senior Quantum Engineer for Advanced Qubit Platforms

The Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Novo Nordisk Quantum Computing Program are collaborating to advance superconducting and semiconducting quantum computing platforms towards scalable fault-tolerant quantum computing. This position is for a postdoctoral researcher who will perform work at the University of Copenhagen on improving qubits and related quantum processor performance with a focus on material quality and novel fabrication development.

Job Description:

  • Fabricate, characterize, and analyze devices.
  • Develop novel fabrication and characterization methods using in-situ techniques and advanced chip designs.
  • Document and communicate research results through publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with researchers at the Molecular Foundry and the Novo Nordisk Quantum Computing Program.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with qubit platform fabrication and characterization.
  • Interest in understanding material science aspects of qubit performance.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with others.

Benefits:

  • This is a full-time 3-year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory job performance and availability of funds.
  • The position is open from November 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Terms of Employment:
The employment is at the University of Copenhagen, but the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will be the research host. The salary is estimated to be around $120,000 per year, based on the location and requirements of the position. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
