Postdoc in Arctic Biogenic Emissions Research

Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark Københavns Universitet Full time
About the Project

The Terrestrial Ecosystem Analysis group at the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on a VILLUM-funded project, "Arctic biogenic volatile compounds from above" (AVOCA). This two-year position will involve developing and applying new remote sensing techniques using data from unmanned aerial systems (UAS), satellite data, and field work to quantify emissions of dominant biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) in Arctic tundra.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for a project work package (WP) in collaboration with the project PI. The WP focuses on method development and applied work in image/point cloud classification of plant species/diversity, assessments of photosynthesis, and BVOC emissions using hyperspectral imaging. Field work will take place in Sub-Arctic Sweden and Greenland.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have experience and interest in both technical and applied aspects of multi- and hyperspectral remote sensing and image analysis, as well as excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. A PhD degree in computer science, computer vision, geosciences, or a similar topic is required.

Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary, ranging from approximately 40,000 EUR to 60,000 EUR per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative research environment.

Application Guidelines

Please submit your application, including diplomas, a research plan, and separate reprints of three particularly relevant papers. The deadline for applications is October 1st, and interviews will be held in the last half of October. Employment start date is December 1st, 2024.
