The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) seeks a highly skilled machine learning researcher to contribute to the development of cutting-edge data-driven models for accurate and near real-time weather prediction. The successful candidate will join our dynamic team within the Weather Research Department, collaborating closely with international research partners in EUMETNET/ACCORD/HIRLAM/United Weather Center (UWC).

As an Advanced Machine Learning Researcher, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing innovative machine learning algorithms to enhance numerical weather forecasting capabilities. This includes working with large datasets, exploring new techniques such as graph-based learning, Bayesian inference, and generative learning using diffusion models.

Your expertise in scientific programming is essential, particularly in Python, with strong proficiency in software development for data analysis and modelling. Experience with frameworks like PyTorch, PyTorch-Lightning, JAX, Flux.JL, Zygote.JL, and MLFlow will be beneficial. Strong data management and analysis skills are also vital for success in this role.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a competitive salary range of DKK 650,000 - DKK 950,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus additional allowances and benefits. Our flexible working week allows for a healthy work-life balance, with 37 hours of work and 6 weeks of paid vacation annually. About the Department

The Weather Research Department at DMI comprises approximately 60 scientists, with 25 working in the weather modeling section.
