Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) seeks an accomplished Senior Atmospheric Data Scientist to drive the development of innovative data-driven models for accurate and near real-time weather prediction. This full-time position is within the field of environmental sciences, with a focus on meteorology and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP).

Job Description

This exciting opportunity requires a talented individual to contribute to the Weather Research Department, focusing on model development and core modeling work. The successful candidate will collaborate with international research partners to develop data-driven forecasting models, leveraging advanced techniques such as graph-based learning, Bayesian inference, and generative learning.

Responsibilities

  • Model Development: Design, implement, and maintain cutting-edge data-driven models for weather forecasting.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with international research partners to advance the understanding of weather prediction and improve forecasting capabilities.
  • Scientific Programming: Develop software solutions for data analysis and modeling using Python, Julia, and Fortran.
  • Data Handling: Manage and analyze large datasets, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's or Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics, atmospheric sciences, applied physics, data science, or a related field.
  • Machine Learning Expertise: Substantial experience in scientific machine learning, particularly in environmental sciences.
  • Scientific Programming: Proficiency in Python, Julia, and Fortran, with experience in software development for data analysis and modeling.

Benefits

  • Salary: Approximately €70,000 - €90,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Location: Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week, inclusive of a paid lunch break.
  • Vacation Time: 6 weeks per annum.
