Research Scientist in Advanced Materials Synthesis
1 month ago
The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for one or more postdoctoral research positions (18-24 months) starting on December 1st, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidates will work within materials chemistry with a strong focus on using X-ray scattering methods for characterizing atomic structure and understanding material synthesis pathways.
The projects will involve ultrafast X-ray scattering at synchrotron and XFEL sources to study atomic-scale structural changes during chemical synthesis of nanoparticles. This includes performing ultrafast time-resolved Pair Distribution Function experiments to investigate the formation mechanism of nanoparticles and elucidate how precursor clusters in solution dissociate and nucleate to form nanoparticles.
The position also involves synthesis development with a focus on photo-induced reactions and using synchrotron techniques, including X-ray total scattering and X-ray spectroscopy, to elucidate the formation pathways for disordered oxide nanomaterials and high entropy materials for electrocatalysis.
The postdoctoral researcher's duties will include research within chemistry and teaching. The position may also include other tasks.
To be considered, applicants must have a PhD degree in experimental chemistry, nanoscience, physics, or a similar field with experience in material synthesis. Extensive experience in synchrotron, neutron or XFEL experiments is required, including experience in advanced modeling of scattering or spectroscopy data. Experience with total scattering and Pair Distribution Function analysis is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate should be able to conduct independent and creative research, demonstrate scientific productivity, and show good interpersonal and communication skills. They will work within our international, cross-disciplinary group and co-supervise students and other group members. Excellent English communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to write scientific papers at a high level.
We offer a dynamic and stimulating research environment, competitive salary, and opportunities for professional development. Salary is approximately 57,000 EUR per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
